Description

Kohlrabi has two growing seasons in Georgia. The Spring Season, where Kohlrabi are started in Late Winter/Early Spring and harvested into the Late Spring and Early Summer. The Fall Season, where Kohlrabi are started in Summer/Late Summer and harvested into the Early Winter.

Kohlrabi thrives between the temperatures of 40 degrees and 75 degrees. It is frost tolerant, surviving temperatures as low as 25 degrees.

Kohlrabi has always been a popular Northern European vegetable (called the German Cabbage by some), it migrated throughout the whole of Europe, finally making it’s way to the Peach State. Expect each Kohlrabi head (or bulb) to reach a diameter of approximately 4 to 5 inches. Flavor is best describes as similar to Broccoli or Cabbage, but sweeter.

Kohlrabi can be prepared like Broccoli or Cabbage (boiled, in stew or soup). Uncooked, Kohlrabi is DELICIOUS shredded into a slaw or salad. It can also be fermented into Sauerkraut.
