Description

Swiss Chard has two growing seasons in North, South, and Central Georgia. The Spring Season, where Swiss Chard is started in Late Winter/Early Spring and harvested into the Late Spring and Summer. The Fall Season, where Swiss Chard is started in Summer/Late Summer and harvested into the Early Winter. Recommended Growing Dates are listed below.

Swiss Chard has one growing season in Coastal Georgia, Late Summer through Spring. Specific Recommended Growing Dates are listed below.

Yellow Chard bares green leaves and beautiful yellow stems. The color contrast is stunning. Plants are tolerant to a light frost and more heat tolerant than other leafy greens. Chard may be eaten raw when leaves are young and tender. As the plant matures and leaves thicken, cook chard leaves like any other leafy green. Swiss Chard makes a great addition to salads mixes, soups, stews, and can be incorporated into any culinary creation.

To increase Seed Germination Rate, allow seeds to soak in room temperature water for 5 minutes before planting.

Expect Swiss Chard plants to grow into a bunch, reaching a height of approximately 1 foot. Harvest no more than 1/3 of the plant at one time to prevent causing stress to the plant. Swiss Chard can handle a light Frost, but not a hard freeze. For best results, start new plants periodically through the growing seasons.
