Description

Cucumbers can be grown anytime in Georgia after Spring’s last Frost and before Fall’s first Frost! For best results, we recommend breaking this long cucumber growing season into two shorter ones; Spring and Fall. The Spring Growing Season begins after the last Spring Frost, ending with a final harvest in the Summer. The Fall Growing Season begins in the Summer, ending with a final harvest in the Fall. Specific Recommended Growing Dates are listed below.

Sumter Cucumbers are an easy-to-grow slicing cucumber, that is heat-tolerant, and mild flavored. Produces 5 to 6 inch long medium fruits. Sumter Cucumbers are resistant to the cucumber mosaic virus.

Cucumbers grow into a Vining Bush. For best results, provide them with a trellis, stake, or structure to climb onto. If the plant is provided with an adequate structure on which to grow, expect it to grow about 6 feet tall. Without a structure to vine onto, the plant will spread in all directions, never reaching a height above 1 foot, but spreading over a large area.

Pollination: Cucumbers require pollination in order for the fruit to properly set and grow. In most cases, the work of pollination is taken care of by pollinators (bees and other pollinating insects). If they do not pollinate the plants, then it must be done by hand.
