Description

Summer Squash can be grown anytime in Georgia after Spring’s last Frost and before Fall’s first Frost! For best results, we recommend breaking this long squash growing season into two shorter ones; Spring and Fall. The Spring Growing Season begins after the last Spring Frost, ending with a final harvest in the Summer. The Fall Growing Season begins in the Summer, ending with a final harvest in the Fall. Specific Recommended Growing Dates are listed below.

Early Summer Crookneck is a fast-producing Heirloom Yellow Squash. Produce bright yellow, firm fruits, approximately 5 to 6 inches long.

Early Summer Crookneck Yellow Squash is a Summer Squash. Summer Squash have a thin skin, as opposed to a Winter Squash that has a thick, hard skin. Expect a spreading bush that reaches a height of approximately 2 to 3 feet and a width that spreads up to 5 feet. The bush will continuously produce a harvest of squash. We recommend growing more than one plant to encourage better pollination.

Tip: Make a small mound of soil, no taller than 6 inches. Plant squash on the mound. This will maximize drainage and encourage more vigorous growth.

Pollination: Squash require pollination in order for the fruit to properly set and grow. In most cases, the work of pollination is taken care of by pollinators (bees and other pollinating insects). If they do not pollinate the plants, then it must be done by hand. Click Here for more information.
